Read MoreAbdominal Therapy is a gentle, body-led treatment focused on the belly – where digestion, emotion and instinct meet. It is sometimes referred to as abdominal massage, but is approached more gently and with a focus on the nervous system and the body as a whole.
Many of us carry stress, tension and past experiences in our abdomen. Over time this can affect digestion, breathing, posture, muscular tension (particular in our lower back) and our sense of inner calm.
Through slow, intentional touch and guided awareness, this session invites the body to soften, release held tension and reconnect with the natural intelligence of the body.

Reconnect with your centre
The abdomen is often overlooked in bodywork, yet it is one of the most sensitive and responsive areas of the body.
Abdominal Therapy offers a supportive way to care for our body’s centre – where tension, stagnation, and stress often accumulate. The treatment uses gentle, hands-on techniques to soften and soothe the tissues of the abdomen, supporting digestion, breath and a deeper sense of grounding in the body.
This practice forms part of my wider approach of helping people reconnect with their centre through the body.
When this work can help
The digestive tract is a very common place that we hold stress and tension. Ongoing stress or past experiences can affect how the body functions through the gut, creating an array of symptoms, such as: bloating, constipation, digestive tension, IBS, anxiety felt in the belly, difficulty relaxing the diaphragm and feeling disconnected from the body.
If you sense that stress impacts your symptoms and would like to explore what your body may be holding, get in touch to book a free 20 minute consultation to find out more.
What happens in a session?
Each session is tailored to your needs, working at a pace that feels safe and restorative. All work is done with full consent, clear communication and as a collaborative process, allowing your body to guide. You’re always in control of what feels right for you. Abdominal Therapy uses oil or magnesium butter. It is a 1 hour treatment, working with the natural rhythm of your breath. The treatment may also involve some work on your diaphragm and legs (through clothing).
Sessions unfold slowly and respectfully.
We begin by settling the nervous system and bringing awareness to the breath. As I work with the abdomen, I listen carefully to the body beneath my hands and may gently guide you to notice sensation, subtle changes in your body or breathe into areas that feel tight or guarded.
Sometimes tension simply softens through touch and breath. At other times emotions or memories connected to the body may surface. Sessions can also include gentle awareness of emotional or stress-related patterns held in the body, and may incorporate tools such as EFT where appropriate. You are always in control of the pace, and we follow what feels safe and supportive for your system.

Frequently asked questions
The treatment is generally gentle, with a focus on creating safety and relaxation. Some areas may feel tender, especially if tension or stagnation is present, but the pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level. You’re encouraged to communicate openly throughout the session.
Please wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows for movement, such as leggings or joggers and a soft top. You’ll remain clothed throughout the treatment.
Try to avoid eating a large meal for at least 1–2 hours before your appointment. Hydrating before and after the session can also support your body’s natural detoxification process.
While abdominal therapy is generally safe and supportive, there are some contraindications. If you’re pregnant, have had recent abdominal surgery, or have specific medical conditions (such as hernia, ulcers, or active inflammation), please check with your practitioner beforehand. We’ll always discuss your health history before treatment to ensure it’s appropriate for you.
Yes, it’s possible. The belly is a deeply emotional and energetic center in the body, and stored emotions can sometimes release during or after treatment. You will be supported in a compassionate and non-judgmental space, and you’re always in control of your experience.
This depends on your goals. Some people feel benefits after just one session, while others may choose a series of treatments to support ongoing digestive, emotional, or energetic healing. We’ll discuss what feels right for you.
That’s completely okay. You’ll be met with care and respect, and we’ll take time to talk through any concerns before we begin. You’re welcome to ask questions at any time – your comfort and safety are always the priority.
