What Is Somatic Bodywork?

Somatic Bodywork blends traditional Thai massage with a body-centred approach to healing. The word somatic simply means working with the body, breath and sensations.

Through slow, mindful touch and gentle guidance, these sessions help you tune into what your body is holding; whether that’s physical tension, stress, held tension or emotional patterns. As awareness grows, the nervous system often begins to soften and regulate, allowing the body to release tension and restore balance.

Sessions may also incorporate conscious breathing, gentle rocking or movement, and simple awareness practices to support this process.

How it works

Somatic Bodywork is a collaborative process. Rather than something being “done” to you, we work together to listen to what your body is communicating.

Through touch, breath and awareness, you may begin to notice areas of tension, sensation or emotional holding in the body. When these sensations are acknowledged and felt safely, the body often has a natural capacity to soften and release.

We trust your body’s innate intelligence. Sometimes the body holds tension or emotion as a way of coping with stress. This work gently invites those patterns to unwind at a safe and supportive pace.

Sessions are typically done on a futon on the floor, fully clothed, with cushions and a heated blanket for comfort. We can also easily adapt the session to a massage table.

Somatic Bodywork may be helpful if you are:

This work invites you to actively participate in the process, reconnecting with your body’s signals and supporting a return to balance. Sessions may include body-based awareness, gentle touch, and guided exploration of emotional patterns, with tools such as EFT where appropriate.
